Welcome to The Sleepy Goddess! We are so sorry you are here. If you are visiting us, it most likely means that you are a caregiver for someone with memory loss.
Hi! My name is JoJo and I am a former educator of 14 years and now stay at home to take care of my two beautiful children and also take care of my mom who was recently diagnosed with Dementia. My husband Will has been a wonderful partner, along for this crazy chaotic ride. Needless to say, my life has completely changed, and I am still trying to adjust to my new normal.
Learning about my mother’s diagnosis was a complete shock to my brother and I. As we navigate her memory loss, we have learned that there is a huge community of caregivers with little support. After teaching for 14 years, I found a way to still use my passion for education in a different way. Educating about memory loss has given me purpose and allowed me to continue to teach.
The video that started it all…
In a moment of frustration, I posted a video about the frustrations of dealing with a loved one suffering from memory loss. I was upset, binging on Red Vines in my car. I assumed my video wouldn’t be seen. Before I could even respond, thousands of people were commenting, helping and sending me the kindest messages. I was blown away by how quickly they stepped in to help me. This inspired me to do this for others.
Our goal is to provide a safe community for caregivers who need support and education to make their situation even a little bit better. As we go through the stages of my mom’s dementia, we share what we learn along the way in hopes to help others.
Why do we call ourselves The Sleepy Goddess? In our opinion, all women are powerful, courageous and strong goddesses. Women manage children, caregiving and everything in between while being perpetually sleep deprived. Somehow, we always get it done. If you looked up the definition of “badass”, you would see a picture of yourself. Yeah, that’s right. YOU ARE A BADASS.
We also host live sessions on Tik Tok for caregivers to meet, chat and vent. Caregiving is hard, and having a community to lean on is so important. We are here to make your day a little better with a dose of dark humor.
